OVERVIEW
The Steel Safari is one of the best true field/practical long-range rifle matches in the world. It's been going on since 1998 and we've been running it since 2008. The Steel Safari is one of four core matches of the Competition Dynamics season, and we continue to develop new match concepts. The Steel Safari may be the longest running match of its type. The Steel Safari has helped to shape the concept of what field shooting means and helped to forge the strong tradition of practical shooting that runs deep in the Rocky Mountain shooting community. We believe that attending the Steel Safari often transforms a shooter's view of what practical and field long-range shooting is all about. The more top-level shooters we can get to this match from around the world the better. We want the "best of the best" to compete head to head annually at the Steel Safari.
GOALS
This year we are making some changes to the registration process for the Steel Safari. The goals of the new registration scheme are:
  1. to raise the level of competition at the match by encouraging a "best of the best" showdown, and
  2. to get more talented shooters from around the world, who have never shot the Steel Safari, into the match.
  3. to provide transparency to the registration process so everyone knows how it works and understands the process
CHANGE TO FORMAT
This year we have also integrated the "Long Range Side Match" into the main match. It is no longer "optional"; however, it will still be scored separately and will have its own prize table. Its new name will be the "Long-Range Known-Distance Exercise" LRKDE and it will take place at the normal time on Friday. If you need to miss the LRKDE on Friday, your main match score will not be affected; however, in the event of a main match die, LRKDE score will be used as the tiebreaker.
PRIZE TABLE
We also have a new Director of Sponsorships and Promotions, Jeff (aka Mendocino on SnipersHide). At his first run being a sponsor director at last year's Thunder Beast Team Challenge, he raised a prize table worth over $35,000 in about three months. Under current management, the Steel Safari has always had a pretty good prize table, but we're going to do even better in 2012. We would like to use sponsorships and promotions as a means to increase the value of these matches to our sponsors and our competitors.
